A beautiful fall day on the Delmarva Peninsula set the stage for an amazing display of mommy-baby cuteness. Children hit the runway to the tunes of swing jazz and delighted the audience. Featured lines included the Tea Collection, Kumquat and the incredible new line from former Jack & Janie lead designer. Velvet & Tweed is destined to be a classic clothing line. My daughter and I met designer, Tina, at New York Bubble and were immediately impressed. Of course, the red toile Christmas Pj's were adorable and pointed us all toward the quickly approaching holiday season. I just came back from a phenomenal 2-day training and annual conference which not only better equipped me in the area of perinatal mood disorders but also personally introduced me to an incredible organization. Whether professional counselors, nurses, psychologists or mothers intent on helping other moms, the people I met demonstrated an impressive degree of compassion and dedication.The speakers and resources were exceptional. After hearing Andrea Yates's tragic story from the perspective of her own defense attorney, it would be difficult not to be motivated to try and prevent a similar tragedy. I returned to Maryland with a renewed sense of urgency to teach and inform health care providers and families about the #1 complication of childbirth: depression. Certainly, helping every mother attain a healthy, happy transition to mothering is a noble goal.
As a new Maryland Coordinator for Postpartum Support International (PSI), I am anxious to get started. If you are interested in hosting a training session or seminar, don't hesitate to contact me.
